Most Valuable Sports Teams:

Let's get into it!

The Future is NOW!

Every now and then, the sports world gets introduced to a new technology that absolutely changes the game…

With professional sport currently operating at a more competitive level than ever, we have a question for you all. What’s the most important factor for teams to focus on?

I mean, sure. While things like smart recruitment and planning are obviously important, at the end of the day, NOTHING trumps the critical nature of performance. And, you know what they say…

Practice makes Perfect.

Being the case, across a number of different professional sports recently, the preparation phase before games has taken to a new level.

With analysts beginning to focus on the minutiae of data, every little detail counts. For that very reason, professional clubs all around the world are beginning to look at Perch – a newly created AI Weight Training Programme.

Already being picked up by over one third of NFL teams, a number of MLS clubs, and Universities, the month the company announced its four newest users – The Brooklyn Nets, Detroit Pistons, Miami Heat, and Orlando Magic.

So, this is how it works:

  • Functioning on the back of three major components – a 3D camera, battery pack, and tablet – the technology records the lifting data of individual athletes.

  • Tracking the sets and reps, what sets Perch apart is its ability to calculate velocity, power, and around a dozen other unknown-before metrics.

  • Developed at MIT, the technology – which coaches and athletes access through an app – can also help inform teams on how to mitigate risks involved with fatigue and other measures associated with athletic performance

Representing the next step in their plan, the deal signed with the aforementioned NBA teams could be what cements Perch as one of the top players in the sports-tech world…

“Perch is used by the world’s most elite athletic organisations to optimise performance, manage fatigue, profile athletes, and quantify daily readiness. For all levels of athletics, from professional to high school, Perch helps you be ready for game day… We’re excited about our penetration into the NBA and look forward to helping these teams keep their players training safely and progressing towards their goals.”

Jacob Rothman, Perch co-founder

Well, That’s Smart!

If you’ve been reading The Sports Road for a while, you’d know that every now and then we get a new ‘Smart’ device.

What is that, you ask? Think of – you know – your Smartphone or SmartTV and think about how it would look in a sports setting. Complicated, we know.

But get this, so far we’ve covered the SmartSock, SmartBall, SmartTires, and most importantly for this story, Smart Ski Goggles…

Bringing a new, innovative take on the potential that these fairly common and basic forms of equipment have, developers have recently been trying to change the face of how athlete’s interact with what is happening around them.

So, remember when we told you to take note of the Smart Goggles? Well, it looks like the idea is here to stay.

Although happening in a different sport, this week Form – a Swimming-based firm – announced the release of their new tech-inspired goggles; and trust us, these are crazy.

Wanting to revolutionise the way Swimmers perform in competition, the goggles will introduce the HeadCoach feature, a way for athletes to get real-time coaching while in the water!

Leveraging Form’s current Augmented Reality (AR) capabilities to essentially provide Swimmers with immediate visual coaching, the system will see athletes receive feedback in two different ways – the first being Form Score, and second being HeadCoach Skills.

“At FORM, we’ve reinvented how athletes train in the water by providing swimmers with real-time data through the FORM Smart Swim Goggles’ unique AR display… Today, with the launch of HeadCoach, we’re taking that innovation one step further by giving swimmers access to a digital swim coach in their goggles and on their phone. HeadCoach marks a new chapter for FORM, providing unparalleled insights into swim performance and empowering swimmers of all levels to unlock new potential.”

See The Game Like Never Before…

With the world having become dominated by social media, information has never been so easily available…

Being the case, a MUCH higher number of people are becoming fans of and getting access to sports leagues which otherwise they wouldn't!

As a result, recently we’ve seen massive efforts being put into leveraging some of the world’s newest technologies to aid in the distribution of sports broadcasting.

Spreading a number of different sports to millions worldwide, despite it obviously being common practice, many people still say it just cannot compare to being at the game in person.

Well, Cosm are looking to change that… If you haven’t heard about them, the global tech company is on a mission to immerse sports fans like never before…

Presenting events through an 8K immersive experience, Cosm merges virtual and real-life environments through allowing fans the feeling of being inside an arena without having to travel (and pay) the amount normally needed.

Having opened and planned the creation of multiple arenas, the company has – across partnerships with organisations such as the UFC – meticulously thought of unique ways to model their arenas into cultivating the atmosphere of a live game.

o, why are we talking about them today? Well, this week the firm signed a deal with TNT Sports which will see them be able to host selected games from the NBA, NHL, and US Football!

Representing the future of what broadcasting will look like, if extended globally, fans will get the opportunities to get a glimpse of what an experience at their favourite team's stadium would be like.

“This partnership is transformative, not just for Cosm but for the live sports and entertainment industry at large… We are thrilled to team with TNT Sports to bring [its] award-winning live coverage … to fans in a new way — by giving them the best seats in the house, every time. Cosm enables the best of at-home and in-venue, delivering the ultimate fan experience.”

Jeb Terry, Chief Executive of Cosm

We Need to Talk About: World Cup 2034

I mean, how could we not!?

Alright, alright. We know exactly what you’re thinking… WHY ON EARTH WOULD BE TALKING ABOUT A WORLD CUP THAT’S STILL ELEVEN YEARS AWAY!?

Well, let’s just say there have been some big developments…

Following Australia’s decision to not bid for the hosting rights for the competition, FIFA announced that Saudi Arabia stands as the sole bidder.

With the result pointing to the tournament returning to the Middle East, the decision represents far bigger implications on the game.

You know what we mean… Football might just have a new powerhouse.

From the SPIF’s takeover of Newcastle, to the country becoming the only team to have beaten Argentina during last November’s World Cup, and managing to bring in Cristiano Ronaldo alongside more of the world's best players, the country’s intentions were clear.

On the path to making Saudi Arabia one of the biggest Footballing nations in the world, hosting the World Cup could be the final piece of the puzzle.

Bringing in huge amounts of attention, the move could see larger communities of fan bases take clearer notice of what’s happening in the country’s Footballing scene.
