Let's get into it!

Boxing: The Future is Bright…

Here at The Sports Road we aren’t shy when it comes to calling out different sports when we feel they – hm, how should we put this – could have acted differently 😅

The main proprietor of that recently? Boxing…

And I mean, it’s not that we dislike the sport or anything… It’s the exact opposite! Like any fans, we just want to see the best product possible. It’s for that very reason why this weekend was just so good!

Seeing the two very best pound-for-pound Boxers going toe-to-toe in an instant classic, Terence Crawford vs Errol Spence Jr was a throwback to the sport’s golden ages.

Utilising his jab as a powerful tool throughout the fight, Crawford expertly managed to control the ring and set the pace in a fight where he dominated.

In a fight which saw such high stakes, we think we speak for every fan when we say that it was so refreshing to feel that invested and engaged with a fight.

With new opportunities coming out everyday as a result of technology, it may be time to get used to that feeling… Let us explain:

Whether you like it or not, influencer Boxing is here to stay – and it looks like it’s going to bring you closer to the action than ever before.

  • In a fight that will see Jake Paul – a social media influencer – fight against former UFC fighter, Nate Diaz, DAZN will be implementing a new form of broadcast – Virtual Reality (VR)

  • Partnering with Meta, the fight will be shown on the Xtadium platform, and will offer fans the chance to watch the fight as if they were in the arena but from the comfort of their own homes…

  • With the technology allowing viewers to capture the action across 180-degrees and in 8K, fans who use the headset will be in for a treat!

The Premier League’s Newest Tech!

If you’ve been on social media recently, then you must have seen this…

Now for those of you who – like all of us – have wondered “I would’ve scored that'', tell us now… Would you really?

Alright, alright. We’re kidding. But really, that is MENTAL! I mean, by the looks of it, the players have absolutely no time on the ball.

No wonder some players – you know who – just hoof it up at every opportunity 😂😂😂

So, why is this all important?

Well, as you can see, this week the Premier League introduced camera angles never seen before in English Football.

Giving fans an introspect into the intensity, comradery, and pace of the professional game, the new product could actually work to heavily shift fan perspectives.

Allowing the viewer – in some ways – to feel as if they’re actually the player, the camera angle shows just how tough the game is at the elite level.

With the Metaverse and use of Virtual Reality (VR) only increasing, this could be GAME CHANGING!

AI: The Future

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: It is harder than ever for young athletes to make it and/or be recognised at the top levels of professional sport.

Luckily though with new influences of technology and social media there seems to be more and more opportunity for those looking for it.

I mean whether it be AI, VR, or programs dedicated to aiding young athletes, it feels like we’re constantly talking about new innovations that are related to the topic.

Today is no different… Teaming up with BallTime, SportsRecruit – a college scouting video repository created to help student-athletes achieve their dreams – are looking into the use of AI to better their product.

In using BallTime’s system, the firm hopes to aid athletes in creating highlight packages to share with college coaches on the SportsRecruits system.

With BallTime’s goal being to democratise access to analysis tools in professional sports, using advanced AI, the technology automatically clips, tags, and creates highlights and data packages.

“If you want to see the future in elite youth sports, you just need to look at what’s happening at the professional level… From video analytics to training and nutrition, as technology drives down costs, adoption at the college and high school level follows. Balltime’s AI-powered video and analytics platform is at the forefront of innovation and is the epitome of this trend. We’re thrilled for Balltime to join our video integration ecosystem as we continue to drive the future of college recruiting.”

Mike Robinson, Chief Operating Officer of SportsRecruits

Using the software, the two hope to open doors to many new student-athletes. Let’s hope for the best!

We Need to Talk About: The UFC

Another weekend, another absolutely mental MMA card!

I mean, UFC 291 had it all… Drama, Surprise, and most importantly some HUGE KNOCKOUTS 🥊🥊🥊

Where do we even start?

The card kicked off with a huge performance by Kevin Holland who, as ever, entertained fans and showcased his length in a very impressive win over Michael Chiesa.

To follow that up, fans were in for a treat when two legends in Tony Ferguson and Bobby Green stepped up to face one another in an exciting fight which – to be honest – didn’t provide too many shocks.

After this is where everything got pretty wild…

How wild, you ask? Just watch this 😅

Ah, Derrick Lewis. Never change 🤣🤣🤣

In the co-main event fans saw Alex Pereira further cement his name as the world’s biggest hater, defeating the only man (other than himself) that has beat Israel Adesanya in the UFC, Jan Blachowicz.

Now for the moment you’ve all been waiting for, the Main Event!

B.M.F 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Justin Gaethje really hit Dustin Poirier with one of the best-timed and powerful head kicks we have ever seen…

With only two fights going the distance in the entire night, it’s fair to say that fans did NOT leave disappointed!
