Look, if you’ve read or listened to The Sports Road, you would know that usually we end with this section…

This time though, we just had to talk about this… It couldn’t be true, could it?

No matter who you speak to, when talking about the most influential people in the tech world, two names ALWAYS come up.

Naturally, it only makes sense that they should fight…

Alright, alright. We get it – maybe we’re reaching with that one. BUT, that may just be an actual possibility.

Yep, you read that correctly. Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg may actually be having a fight…

With Musk calling Zuckerberg out on Twitter earlier this week, what many thought originally had been a joke, burst into reality.

Just listen to what Dana White – President of the UFC – had to say following conversations with both men.

“I Probably spent an hour and a half on the phone with both of them last night. Both guys are absolutely dead serious about this.”

I mean, with influencer Boxing essentially taking over the combat scene, it’s obvious that – if made – the fight would do OUTRAGEOUS numbers!

Estimating that a potential fight would TRIPLE the revenue generated by Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather in the ‘biggest’ fight of all time, White has also said he’d be open to the two battling it out under the UFC banner.

With Zuckerberg already having trained MMA for a few years, it seems like Elon would have to do some catch-up.

That doesn’t seem like it’ll be a problem though, with George St Pierre (GSP) offering to train the billionaire for the potential bout.

AI x The Premier League?

You know what they say, knowledge is power.

If the last couple of months have taught us anything, it’s that so is AI…

Offering teams vital information regarding everything from tactical to physiological analysis, the implementation of AI has changed sport dramatically.

Being the case, it only makes sense that it would make it to the most elite level of our favourite games.

So with that – AI, welcome to The Premier League. Here’s what we know so far:

Extending their partnership with Football DataCo, Genius Sports – a sports data and technology firm – will become the EFL and Premier League’s official tracking data and analytics partner.

The deal will see the company utilise their AI-powered ‘Second Spectrum’ technology across multiple divisions, engaging fans unlike ever before.

  • Using information gathered through the partnership, the AI will be able to create augmented, enhanced graphics based on real time data.

  • As a result, fans will be given advanced insight into a wide variety of statistics. From shot velocity, to positional data, and more, the unique information will appear as broadcast overlays which will allow fans a highly personalised experience.

A BIG Partnership

Look, in the past we may have not spoken about Golf in the highest regard…

While we obviously appreciate it as a sport, we just – how should we put this – think that it isn’t the pinnacle of excitement.

Saying that though, recently it’s been hard to keep it out of the headlines. From the dramatic merger, to huge technological advancements, and more, the sport has definitely been doing something right. I mean, just look at how much fun DJ Khaled’s been having:

With most announcements happening on such large scales, it’s sometimes easy to forget about the actual teams which actually make up some of the games biggest tournaments.

When thinking about the development of the sport in the future, recognition and support for these teams is vital; and it looks like the game has taken notice.

Tiktok: Sports’ Cheat Code

More than ever, it seems as though sports institutions are trying to find unique ways to better engage their fans; and to be honest, it makes sense.

With social media beginning to dominate the lives of so many, without trying to sound like an annoying parent, the abundance of online content available has led to a significant decrease in attention spans.

Becoming used to consuming information through bite-sized media clips, if you can’t capture a fan's attention quickly, that might be it…

In the case of Cycling – a sport with a fan base older than others – this has become increasingly important.

With 54% of fans being above the age of 55, the need to target new audiences stands as integral to the sports development.

So with that, Cycling’s biggest event – the Tour de France – has struck a new partnership.

With who, you ask? Tiktok… 

Yep, in a deal which will see the social media giant use their unique algorithm to push the sport into the minds of millions, this could be a turning point for the sport.

Engaging a younger audience, the two have already announced that the app will feature highlighted content from the races, while local influencers will be utilised to further spread support for the event.

Beginning next week, the upcoming Tour de France could be one that will change Cycling forever…
