The 3D Printed Future of Racing
This isn’t the first time we’ve spoken about 3D printing here at The Sports Road…
And for good reason – the influence that it’s bound to have on the sports world will be huge! From allowing athletes more customisation over their equipment to aiding in injury rehabilitation and prevention, for the most part, it’s quite hard to argue against.
Even with all that, though, this next story seems – how should we put this? – pretty outlandish…
Being cost effective compared to more traditional methods, Toyota are using 3D printed materials to power their cars for the up-and-coming GR Cup – an amateur racing series.
Yep, you read that correctly. We are actually at a point where race cars are being 3D printed…
Having partnered up with Stratasys – a firm who specialise in 3D printing – in late 2022, the deal’s potential will now be able to be seen on a large scale.
Managing to save on 31 separate parts, some of the car’s major components will be 3D printed. These include the hood vents, engine materials, door handles, and more.
With the GR Cup starting in a little less than a month, the decision represents some big benefits not only to Toyota, but Motorsports as a whole.
To name just a few, here are a couple of things that the idea could offer:
Faster Prototyping: In incorporating 3D printed materials in their cars, Motorsport teams can quickly design prototypes allowing for faster development
Customisation: 3D printing allows teams to create custom parts tailored to whatever specific need they are looking for. This could eventually work to improve aerodynamics, airflow, and many more elements.
Cost Effective: Lastly, and what many teams may consider most important, its use will save money and eliminate waste.
PFL x NFT Ticketing
The Professional’s Fighters League has been on one recently.
From huge signings like Francis Ngannou, to opening their very own Metaverse, the company is looking to bring the smartcage to the forefront of all sports fans minds.
By leveraging innovative uses of technology as a means to distribute their content on a large-scale, the PFL have been making themselves stand out in a VERY interesting way.
What now, you ask?
Well, this week the organisation announced their intention to begin offering NFT Tickets.
That’s right, in collaboration with CrossTower, fans will be given unique opportunities using Blockchain technology.
This is what we know so far:
Ticket buyers will be offered cage-side VIP experiences. These also include special weigh-in events, fighter meet and greets, and more.
NFT holders will also be allowed special access into the Smartcage
The NFT’s used in the partnership will be made by XRP Ledger
“We’re pleased to introduce our partnership with CrossTower to bring our PFL fans premium VIP experiences through blockchain technology… NFT ticketing creates a new way for PFL fans to engage with live PFL events, combining access to -buy experiences, real-world utility and digital ticketing.”
Peter Murray, PFL CEO
The idea of ticket distribution via NFT’s is something which has been taking the sports world by storm recently.
With fraudulent tickets being more common than ever, fans can be far more assured when using NFT’s.

We Need to Talk About: TMRW Sports
TMRW Sports are completely changing the game.
When talking about Golf as a sport, we aren’t sure many would put it up there as one of the most exciting and innovative.
Well, TMRW Sports are here to change that.
If you haven’t heard about them yet, the company – whose founders include Tiger Woods and Rory Mcllroy – burst onto the scene a few years ago.
Planning to harness technology to build the future of Sport, media and entertainment, in 2022, they announced the creation of TGL – a tech-inspired Golf league – in partnership with the PGA Tour.
Since then the company has gone from strength to strength, bringing new ways for fans to interact with sports in some very interesting ways…
So with all that, you may be thinking to yourself – why are we talking about them today?
Well, in their most recent investment round, the company has added the likes of – get this – DJ Khaled, Justin Bieber, and Macklemore. Yeah, you read that correctly…
Building off investment from huge names in the sports world like Shaquille O’Neal, Gareth Bale, and Andy Murray, the company’s investor group has a social media following of OVER ONE BILLION!
That is certainly one way to gain some recognition…
But seriously, in doing so – not only will the company allow themselves more readily available resources – but they can also appeal to a completely different demographic than you would associate with traditional Golf.
Who knows what the future will hold, but we are sure this won’t be the last we hear of TMRW Sports…
