Let's get into it!

This Will Change Sport FOREVER!

Across sport, there’s an old saying: The best ability is availability…

And, yes, while you’re probably thinking about how overused that statement is, to be honest, it’s true!

I mean, to prove it you don’t have to look so far – just think about this season alone. From Manchester United and Chelsea in the Premier League, the Chicago Bears in the NFL, every single Light Heavyweight champion in the UFC, the list goes on!

Playing a defining role in the short and long term performance of a team, injuries – as you all know – can have dramatic effects.

But perhaps what makes the exploration of these issues even more important, is that they aren’t exclusive to the pro level. Unfortunately, any athlete at any level is at constant risk of injury.

Well, what if we told you that the whole landscape of how we combat injury could be changing…

That’s right. Based in Vancouver, Plantiga Technologies are looking to help athletes reduce injury risk AND improve rehabilitation in their newest AI-powered product.

Working through a monitoring sensor pod placed inside shoes/insoles, the product seeks to analyse a person's movement patterns to better grasp their health status.

Claiming that movement is the ideal way for humans to predict rehab outcomes, injury risks, disease progression, and more, the company already works with over 90 elite teams!

“We have developed models that will learn how a person moves from four to five sessions, then predict when they move differently from their baseline… Our AI learns how a person moves, then can monitor [that] for changes, suggest areas that need to be strengthened, assess limb strength and more.”

Quin Sandler, co-founder and CEO of Plantiga

Golf’s Tech Revolution!

Here at The Sports Road, we have long regarded Golf as – how should we put this – not the most exciting sport ever 😅

I mean, sure, there’s a certain charm to playing the game, but very few can deny that watching it – over the last few years especially – has been pretty boring. Sorry Golf fans…

BUT, that’s all changing…

In fact, recently the sport has been one of the most technologically innovative and active! From creating digital experiences, to using AI for data capture and analysis, the sport has simply not stopped…

Culminating in TGL, a literal virtual tournament consisting of some of the greatest Golfers ever, a couple weeks ago we spoke about Full Swing.

Powering the competition, TGL will be using Full Swings advanced digital simulation capabilities to create their virtual courses.

torming into one of the most prominent names in the sport, it looks like Full Swing are ready to further capitalise on their success. Here’s what we know so far:

  • Becoming the official technology partner of Good Good Golf, an industry leading Golf entertainment brand, Full Swing will be featured on their social media channels which boasts over 1 million followers.

  • Equipping the entertainment firm’s new headquarters with the best of their technology, Full Swing will place things such as the PRO 2.0 Simulator, the same product used by greats like Tiger Woods, in the building.

Helping improve the level of Good Good’s content, this partnership is sure to turn out successful for everyone!

“We are committed to being the leaders in sports technology to create experiences that used to be unimaginable and we think that this lines up perfectly with a team like Good Good that are redefining the way people experience golf.”

Jason Fierro, Chief Operating Officer at Full Swing

Baseball in Mixed Reality!?

Speaking of virtual simulations, this one is pretty crazy.

Since the start of the season earlier this summer, there has been A LOT of Baseball news…

Mostly being performance-based analysis, while technological innovation is rife, it’s all fairly focused on aiding the on-field actions of players, coaches, and other staff.

With this though, Baseball could be changing FOREVER.

Charged by a desire to create an in-game feeling for fans casually batting at their local cage/arena, Bat Around was created to transform the playing experience at all levels.

Acting as a software which works in gamifying the batting cage experience, the technology accurately analyses batting data and transfers it onto a virtual arena.

Perfecting the way that mixed reality can be incorporated into the sport, the firm has received some VERY high praise from VERY important people…

Created with the help of some of the biggest names in the Baseball world, the company has recently added Todd Helton and Tino Martinez to the team.

"The addition of these two legends shows the momentum Bat Around is building… We have had a lot of excitement building through our presence at the College World Series, our partnership with USA Baseball and in our test markets that will be expanding over the coming months."

Matt Farrell, CEO of Batting Challenge Holdings (creator of Bat Around)

We Need to Talk About: The Premier League

We are well underway with this season’s Premier League…

As ever, this season has surprised, shocked, and even made us laugh. With some of the best attacking football we’ve ever seen being displayed on a weekly basis, it looks as though we’re in for a good one.

I mean, just look at Newcastle!

Recording a club record 8-0 win last weekend – yes, we really did just say 8 – the team are beginning to pick up their fine form from last season.

Saying that though, it’s not Newcastle that interests us today. Rather, we NEED to talk about Sheffield United…

Having only picked up one point this season, the club are yet to win a game. Having worried a large majority of fans by their lack of business in the Summer transfer period, it never looked bright for the Blades.

But, that begs a question. Could it have ever?

With there being unbelievable amounts of money currently being spent in the Premier League, the idea of promotion – while undoubtedly positive and celebratory – becomes fairly complicated.

When considering that Sheffield United are currently joined by the two other recently promoted sides in Burnley and Luton – who both are also yet to win a game this season – you really do have to wonder whether more should be done to prepare these teams in order to compete.
