Most Valuable Sports Teams:

Let's get into it!

The Premier League’s Newest Technology…

As fans, it sometimes feels as though we experience the game in ways that are deeper than just watching…

Reacting to every moment as if it’s actually them out there, just like the players on the pitch, fans go through very similar – if not, the same – ups and downs on matchday.

Being the case, broadcasters are put in a funny position. I mean, is it even possible to truly replicate that feeling through the TV?

Being on a constant mission to find new and innovative ways to find an answer to the question and bring our favourite sports to life, TNT Sports may think they’ve found the answer…

Teaming up with the Premier League and AI specialists, Mindfly, TNT Sports trialled the use of bodycam’s for the first time in English league Football. This is what we know so far:

Having used a similar system earlier this year during pre-season, the Premier League seem incredibly keen on its implementation.

Bringing fans closer than ever to the game, the concept allows people to see just how fast, intense, and heated Football is at the elite level.

  • Using Mindfly’s AI-potabilisation bodycam tech, the league has placed a focus on ensuring that the system does not interfere with player performance.

  • Having been used in the warmup of Wolves’ game against Tottenham last weekend, the trial looked pretty successful.

  • Offering unique angles for viewers to watch during and after games, the experience also includes audio, providing further levels of immersion to the audience

“Finding new ways to bring our fans closer to the action on the pitch is a key focus for us… After the success of the bodycam trials at the Premier League Summer Series, we are looking forward to seeing what results this test will deliver for TNT and our audiences around the world.”

Rachael Nightingale, the Premier League’s Head of Media Operations and Innovation

The NHL is BACK!

Over the last couple months, the NHL has consistently pushed the boundaries of how tech can be used to engage existing and bring in newer fans.

To list a few of their many innovative ideas, within the last year, the league has teamed up with Disney to recreate live matches in real-time, released a variety of Augmented Reality (AR) inspired games, struck deals with Roblox and SO much more.

Having seen some serious success with these, it was obvious that it wouldn't be long until we saw the NHL back in the scene.

Collaborating with crypto startup, Swift, and the league’s alumni and players’ association, this week the NHL announced the creation of NHL Breakaway.

Acting as the NHL’s very own NFT collectibles platform, fans will be allowed to collect, trade, and display their collectibles.

Happening in what the league is calling ‘The Trade Lounge’, the platform will give the NHL’s global fanbase a base for which to interact and talk about past and current events.

With collections being centred around the most exciting moments in the league’s history, the platform will also include gamification through challenges which can be played to earn real-life rewards.

"We’ve been committed to developing digital collectibles designed and customised for the NHL and wholly focused on connecting with hockey fans in the most authentic and engaging manner possible.”

David Lehanski, NHL Executive Vice President of Business Development & Innovation

Being the second time this year that the NHL has delved into the digital collectible scene, don’t be surprised if this isn’t the last time you see the company announce something related to the topic.

Rugby: It’s Time

We rarely say this, but the last couple weeks have been dominated by Rugby!

Following a hugely successful World Cup last month, the wider Rugby scene have used the tournament’s momentum to further promote themselves into the mainstream.

Signing a new strategic partnership with Globant, a company focused on digital business innovation using technology, Major League Rugby (MLR) is levelling up!

Using Globant’s services to aid in the league’s digital transformation, the two will explore tech-based solutions for a variety of the issues currently facing the MLR.

Aiming to build a new version of the MLR’s streaming platform, the two will place specific attention to improving the fan experience.

Being used to showcase Rugby’s biggest matches, discuss relevant news, and highlight exclusive content, Rugby fans should be in for some good times…

Developed on the back of data captured by Rugby fans globally, the new system will focus on bringing what YOU want to life!

“As a leading disruptor in the sports industry, Globant is a trusted partner of many global organisations focused on driving innovation and propelling business growth through technology… We have helped these businesses tap into and unlock the power of their data to create better fan and team experiences and identify new revenue streams. We’re thrilled to work with Major League Rugby, and we look forward to leveraging our expertise to help grow the game we love.”

Martín Migoya, CEO of Globant

We Need to Talk About: Boxing

This is a big one, guys…

Let’s not beat around the bush. Sometimes we can be – how should we put this – critical of the Boxing world.

Why? Well, sometimes everything (and everyone) in the business just seems so detached.

I mean, honestly. Please tell me the last time – away from influencer Boxing – that there’s been two or more big fights on one card. PLEASE! 😂😂😂

Originally slated to be Tyson Fury against Oleksander Usyk, after Fury’s win against Francis Ngannou, those in charge had to conjure up something else for the December 23 card in Saudi Arabia; something that would still get fans on their feet.

And they did just that. Even we can give credit where it’s due.

This week, an absolutely INSANE card was announced. Featuring both Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder, it looks like the sport is taking a step in the right direction.

Ok, yes. While the two are still – after SO MANY YEARS – are not fighting each other, the fact that they can even be on the same stage proves that we’re one step closer.

"Maybe I'm gonna have to go to England and sit down with him on some real man s***... I don't want him to feel like I have anything against him, but I know he's afraid of me… Joshua - me and you is the biggest fight in the world bro, what are you doing?”

Deontay Wilder

THIS is the Day of Reckoning.
