Smart Tires: WHAT!?

While the concept of ‘Smart’ devices being integrated into sport may sound a bit strange, the phenomenon is actually becoming more and more common.

I mean, from the Smart Ball, to the Smart Sock, to the Smart Hoop, to the Smart Goggles, the list goes on.

So, with that, you may be wondering to yourself what now…

Introducing (can we get a drumroll please 🥁🥁🥁) the Smart Tire. Yep, these could quite literally be the tires that will take Motorsports to the next level.

A couple weeks back, we wrote about the importance which data holds in the racing industry. We saw that without it, well, modern day Motor Racing would just not be the same. From performance levels, to fan engagement, nothing would be the same.

With the implementation of the Smart Tire, the already crazily detailed information used may become that bit more accurate…

Here’s what we know so far:

• In partnership with NASCAR, Goodyear’s new Smart Tires will make their debut on the tracks during next weekend’s 24 Hours of Le Mans race – the oldest active racing event in the world, by the way

• The tires will be equipped with an innovative passive, non-battery, sensor which will essentially allow for the flow of real-time data. This will give teams a better idea of how the race is going and give them the knowledge and time needed to better devise plans to improve performance.

• The specific data metrics that teams will be provided with will range from tire pressure, temperature, and more

Attempting to take over F1 as the most popular Motorsports company in the world, it makes sense. With the use of technology becoming more and more integral to sports’ growth, the company may have identified something that will change the game forever…

Air-Conditioned Helmets: This is Getting Silly Now…

It’s that time of the year…

The weather gets hotter, and playing sports just gets that extra bit more agonising 😂 

ESPECIALLY, if you have to wear a helmet… American Football Fans, stick around. This one is pretty crazy.

Whether you call it pre-season or training camp, we guarantee that no one likes to put in those hours of strenuous work in the blistering summer heat.

For players at LSU Tigers – Louisiana State Universitys’ Football team – it may just be that tad more bearable.

Why, you ask? Air-conditioned Helmets… I swear some of these innovations just get more and more outrageous!

Charged by a battery system, the helmets have up to five hours of air conditioning and will help combat the harsh conditions.

Created by Louisiana based company Tigeraire, the helmet comes with personalised options as to maximise the athletes comfort levels.

From direction, to power, and even having the abilities to defog visors, this is bound to change the way players experience the game. And if we were to guess, it would most definitely be for the better…

The Next Generation

We’re sure if you ask most sports fans what their favourite video game is, many of them would say FIFA.

And, to be honest, it makes sense. Having been a mainstay in our lives for over twenty years, a lot of us have grown up with it…

So, understandably, following last year's announcement that EA Sports and FIFA will go their separate ways, a VERY big hole was created in the Football video game market.

With both announcing that they WILL still be creating Football games, FIFA President Gianni Infantino promised that “the only authentic, real game that has the FIFA name will be the best one available for gamers and football fans.”

Yikes! The good news though? It looks like we have a rivalry that’ll bring the best out of the next generation of Football games.

In an effort to set themselves apart, it looks as though EA has made the first move…

Partnering with Nike SWOOSH, it looks like in the next edition of their sports games, EA will look to incorporate Web3 and NFT based content.

Promising to build new immersive experiences together, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Nike branded digital collectibles in the coming EA games.

Currently functioning only as a closed beta, the partnership may bring Nike’s presence in the Metaverse to the next level.

We Need to Talk About: Saudi Arabian Football

Football fans, there may be a new powerhouse taking over…

So, let’s not beat around the bush here. The Saudi Pro League is changing the face of modern Football.

All beginning last year with the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s takeover of Newcastle United, the club quickly became the Premier League’s richest club.

Ever since, it looks like the Saudi Arabian Football project has gone from strength to strength.

From becoming the only team to have beaten Argentina during last November’s World Cup, to managing to bring in Cristiano Ronaldo (yes, that Cristiano Ronaldo. You know, one of the best players to ever play the game…) their intentions were clear.

Make Saudi Arabia one of the biggest Footballing nations in the world. So far, if this summer is anything to go by, it does not look like they are about to stop.

To put things into perspective, following yesterday’s announcement that Karim Benzema will be joining the league, the Saudi Pro League is now home to Real Madrid’s top two goal scorers and assisters EVER.

When considering that – according to reports – the league are now looking at bringing in N’golo Kante, Luka Modric, and Lionel Messi, this is most definitely a story to keep an eye on…
