The World Cup Like Never Before!

In another edition of wacky sports-tech partnerships you wouldn’t expect to see, FIFA have come back for more 😅😅😅

It’s no secret that FIFA had been using technology as a means to drum up interest for the Women’s World Cup.

I mean from opening up lands in the Metaverse, to a big deal with Roblox, the plan is clear to see.

Today’s announcement? A partnership with Snapchat, focused on leveraging Augmented Reality (AR) to personalise fan experiences with the tournament.

This is what we know so far:

  • This week, Snapchat released a whole host of new interactive features to celebrate the beginning of the Women’s World Cup.

  • In addition to World Cup themed customisable options for users’ personal avatars, the two combined to release seven AR lens features. These features will include information related to different statistics, results, news, and facts about the tournament!

  • Such features are set in a way which will allow users to share pictures and videos using the filters globally using online stories. Throughout the tournament, fans will also be encouraged to upload a series of challenges offering a chance to win up to $30,000.

With the application engaging fans from all over the globe, the tournament is bound to get more coverage and continue its rapid growth.

When considering just how big social media (and especially Snapchat) has become recently, we think this can only spell good things for not only FIFA, but the women’s game as a whole!

Ah, where did it all go wrong?

World Cup winner, Parisian at his core, and one of the most elite European talents since Ronaldo and Messi. Mbappe to PSG seemed like the perfect move…

Fast forward a few years – 0 Champions Leagues, off-pitch drama, and a series of managerial changes would suggest otherwise 😬

Alright, alright. We’re being harsh. Truth is, Mbappe has become one of, if not, the world’s best players.

Despite that though, an exit is on the cards this Summer and it does NOT look like a nice situation.

With the striker allegedly ready to sit out an ENTIRE season in order to leave on a free next summer, Mbappe has been ousted from the PSG pre-season squad…

The drama doesn’t stop there…

In fact, PSG are convinced that the France captain ALREADY has an agreement to join Real Madrid next summer.

Seeing as the club claim Mbappe had promised not to leave for free, they allegedly view the situation as a huge betrayal!

Putting the player up for sale, PSG will be expecting a massive bid to sell the striker. Yet again, it doesn’t end there though…

This weekend, France's National Union of Professional Footballers (UNFP) backed Mbappe in a statement which called PSG out for poor player treatment.

So, who knows – Real Madrid, Saudi Arabia, England? This is definitely one to keep an eye…
